Who is Zane Zinkl?
My name is Zane Zinkl. I am a dying man, and these are my adventures.
I am also a journalist and recent graduate of Sonoma State, but I became a journalist, and am here in war-torn Ukraine because of Santa Rosa Junior College. If it wasn’t for the Oak Leaf, the student newspaper there, and the unparalleled freedom and opportunity SRJC allows its students, I wouldn’t be here. My experience covering fires for the Oak Leaf at SRJC gave me the knowledge and confidence to operate in any environment, and adapt to rapidly changing conditions without hesitation.
Of course, it also helps that I am crazy.
I was born and raised in Sonoma County. Six generations of my family have lived in Petaluma, California, and if I die there, I will be the seventh. I like smoking, drinking, ordering in restaurants, and occasionally hitchhiking a hundred miles down some lonely highway when life gets too decadent. Chasing fires, running with bulls, climbing mountains, and going to war-zones serve a similar purpose.
After all, with all its peaceful, easy feelings, life in Sonoma County can get quite decadent.
